Default complex conjurgates calculus of variations

f(z)=√(|xy| )
|z|=√(x^2+y^2 ) in general
Now will that mean
f(z)=√((xy)^(1⁄2) )=xy ??

I will appreciate your help,

Thanks,

Jas
