Default rate problem. Please help

Hi everyone. This is my question: An insurance policy costs $7.50 for every $1000 of insurance. At this same rate, how much would $170,000 of insurance cost?

How many $1000's are there in $170,000? This gives you the number of $7.50's the policy will cost.

The answer is that there are 170 $1000's in $170,000 (of course!). So the policy will cost 170 x $7.50 = $1275.
