| |  T-89, Multiplying Binomials
How would I get the Ti-89 to solve for (y+5)(3y-2)? When I enter this in its bare form it just spews out the question I put in. |

Hello,
Well, it depends what you want to do with that oO
You can try to use the function develop( )
Or if it's really an equation, you need =0 or something like that. Then, use solve(«equation»[ and «further equations»], «variable(s)»)

What’s the function develop? What I want to do is get the answer laid out in the book which is 3y^2+13y-10. Like I said, this is multiplying the binomials so think of it in terms of the FOIL method. |

develop means develop the expression, the contrary of factor.
It may give you what you want...
Check that there is no variable name y in you ti

If there’s an abbreviation for function development then I’m unaware of it. It didn’t work. Nor did putting a =0 at the end of it or using “solve” work. Finally, the variables have been cleared and there hasn’t been a change in the answer it gives. |

I figured out my mistake with expand. I didn't have it in double parenthesis. Thanks for the help. |

Here's a screen capture from my TI-92. It wroks essentially the same as the 89. If you want to solve for y, use the 'solve' function.
