I really love the Russian language. Right now I'm trying to transition from basic conversational speech to sounding more native and that part is difficult. I can get my point across on most topics, but I'll make so many errors in the process that it is very clear I'm not Russian. I want to speak it perfectly!

I'm glad to have a native Russian speaker on MHF! I agree that English is a very difficult second language to learn. Best of luck to you.

I'm in my first year as an undergraduate at uni. I did my A levels about 15 years ago so I've found the first few weeks a bit of a shock.

I'm doing Core Techniques in Maths 1 and Statistics in Semester 1 & Operational Research and Core Techniques 2 in S2.

Also doing Psychology as a joint honours.

I have only finished my midterm. I want sleep. Next semester will take care of itself. If I could change things, I would tour Europe a year before I started college. Too late now.

Currently I am a 2nd year student at the University of Toledo. My class load this semester is:

-Political + Social Philosophy
-Real Analysis 1
-Abstract Algebra
-Survey of Astronomy
-Intermediate Spanish 2 (4th semester Spanish class)
-World History to 1500
18 credit hours total

Next semester I am taking:
-Honors North American Literature
-Honors Differential Equations
-Philosophy of Mathematics seminar (I am so excited for this class, the ontological status of numbers is one of the most interesting questions in math IMO)
-Modern Philosophy: from Descartes to Kant
-Elementary Linear Algebra (Techincally I could take the 3000 level linear algebra, but for some reason my pure math major requires I take this one)
-Real Analysis 2
18 credit hours total

To put my course load into context, I am an honors student majoring in pure mathematics + philosophy.

My goals for this year are to get above a 3.0 GPA (these upper level math classes are giving me a run for my money: they are the first classes I have taken where a 70% overall is considered a good grade lol), and eventually be a senior by the end of the year (I came into college with 25 or so credit hours from high school, so if all goes according to plan, I will have enough to be considered a senior and I will be able to complete my undergrad degree in 3 years =]). Also, I did some undergraduate research last summer on a philosophical topic (If you're interested to know what it was, I basically analyzed Miguel de Unamuno's Niebla, which is an existentialist novel in Spanish, and helped make the case that Unamuno deserves a lot more recognition than he gets), and this year I know more about math, so I am aiming to get another grant proposal this time in math (though I would also be happy doing a philosophical research topic).

Having passed all the above I shall proceed by taking the following in the first semester of 2010:
  • Databases and Database Systems
  • Web Programming
  • Discrete Mathematics
  • Numerical Analysis
  • Physics I (This is just because I need a few more first year credits)
