I think one should take notes. Because they reflect the way you're thinking, seeing things. Textbooks are mostly there as supports, in case there are missing elements.
It also depends on the way you learn things. Some people need to write it at least once to remember better. And I know some of them.

Agreed, you're own notes always seem to make more sense than any text book ever does.

I usually sleep on it. I have to be deeply relaxed to study. No noises whatsoever.
