Haha, no. I'm currently learning the theory that I didn't learn before.

Maths aren't just calculations

For example in my country, we take far more interest to the demonstrations than to the results. So you may be able to solve any integral you come up with, but it's not doing all the maths. That's what he says in #32

I dunno if I said before this, but I learnt some of limits, derivatives, integration & ODE in february 2007. I really wanted to learn those stuff (actually, ODE it's a consequence of learning derivatives & integration), then in 2007 I wasn't in college, but now yes.

Well, that's all good then. as long as you're sure you will be learning stuff. power to you!

as far as the US is concerned, it seems to me that calculus 1 students are rarely interested in theory. such a course is computationally intensive and does little more than teach students how to handle routine problems. every once in a while, you may get a professor that thinks outside the box and does some interesting stuff, but this is in no way the norm. this is why math majors at my school are required to do advanced calculus, that's where you go into the analysis and theory of calculus

Hmmm I'm not sure about the names... The numbers are relative to the importance of the class (and to the difficulty too )

Semester 5 : sep2008 to dec2008/jan2009
- Topology & differential calculus (4/10)
- Measure & integration theory (4/10)
- Residues calculus (so I guess it is complex analysis) (2/10)
- Scilab (1/10)
- (if I have time, I'll attend some classes of Group Theory)

Aww... tough semester coming ^^

Semester 6 (not sure, but likely) : feb2009 to may2009
- Probabilities (4/10)
- Numerical methods for differential equations (2/10)
- Process & simulation (2/10)
- Data analysis & linear regression (2/10)

My next semester will be made of :
  • quantum & statistical physics
  • crystallography
  • semiconductor physics
  • numerical analysis
  • heat transfer
  • a couple of pratical works (semiconductor, LASER, crystallography...)

This fall I am taking:

Operations Research

Modeling and Simulation

Partial and Ordinary DE's

Operations Research has a lot of linear programming type stuff.

Modeling and Simulation is a lot of DE and various applied things: traffic flow, predator prey, population, springs, etc.

Algebra is the offer made by the devil to the mathematician. The devil says: `I will give you this powerful machine, it will answer any question you like. All you need to do is give me your soul: give up geometry and you will have this marvellous machine.'

Looks like the usual maths department confusion of tools with subject matter in OR.
