| | Albert Einstein Quotes from Albert Einstein
The most incomprehensible thing about the universe
is that it is comprehensible.
Sometimes one pays most for things one gets for nothing.
Anyone who has never made a mistake
has never tried anything new.
If we knew what it was we were doing,
it would not be called research, would it?
Gravitation can not be held responsible
for people falling in love.
Try not become a man of success
but rather try to become a man of value.
You do not really understand anything
unless you can explain it to your grandmother.
The wireless telegraph is not difficult to understand.
The ordinary telegraph is like a very long cat.
You pull its tail in New York and it meows in Los Angeles.
The wireless is the same, only without the cat.
When asked how World War III would be fought,
Einstein replied that he didn't know,
"but World War IV would be fought with sticks and stones."
Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute and it seems like an hour.
Sit with a pretty girl for an hour and it seems like a minute.
That's relativity.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity.
And I'm not sure about the universe. |

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." - The Litany Against Fear, "Dune" by Frank Herbert |

| | There are two things I hate about quotations.
1)When two people are having some argument or disagreement and one of the guys in the argument quotes a person from history. What is the point in doing this? This does not automatically make the argument correct. Sometimes it is okay to do that, if you are quoting the correct person, I do that. But sometimes people just have no idea of what is a reliable quote. For example, I have seen people quote philosophers for some math reason while those philosophers had no knowledge of math at all.
2)When a person says a quotation (his own) or uses someone elses quotation just because it sounds fancy or intellegent. For example, that quote by Einstein that topsquark objected to is an example, "it is incomprehensible because it is comprehensible", those is that I categorize as one of those fancy quotations, that seems to contradict itself. Most of these fancy quotations are complete garbage, like I have seen somebody say, "first sign you are not a genius is thinking you are one", which is entirely false. But it was only said because it sounds fancy. Few of those fancy quotes you see people say are really correct. If I remember correctly there is even a quote by Voltaire on those fancy sounding quotes.
The quotes that I like are the ones that are really true and sound nice. I am not a fan of Einstein quotes because I disagree with many of them. However, the quotations I have in my signature (each line its own quotation) on war I really like. And Captain Blank places good ones too. Quote: |

| I saw on Discovery that Einstein had the view on the universe that it is infinite. Because he thought that an expanding universe is ugly. In fact, he later admitted that the cosmological constant was his biggest error, which was a constant based on the idea that the universe is infinite, eternal, and always existing. |

it here so that searching on my sig would not so easily reveal my true
identity (its Clark Kent if you must know). Quote: |

| The funniest part of this is of course that the cosmological constant
is back in fashion due to supernova distance measurments apparently
indicating that the expansion of the Universe is speeding up.
The thing about fashion is that by the time you read this it will have
changed.

Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.
Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen.
Science is a wonderful thing
if one does not have to earn one's living at it.
The only thing that interferes with my learning
is my education.
Education is what remains after one has forgotten
everything he learned in school.
Imagination is more important than knowledge.
Any intelligent fool can make thing bigger,
more complex, and more violent.
It takes a touch of genius, and a lot of courage,
to move in the opposite direction.
We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking
we used when we created them.
As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain.
As far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.
Science without religion is lame.
Religion without science is blind.
I want to know God's thoughts; the rest are details.
I am convinced that God does not play dice.
God is subtle but He is not malicious.
God does not care about our mathematical difficulties.
He integrates empiracally.
A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually
on sympathy, education, and social ties;
no religious basis is necessary.
Man would indeed be in a poor way
if he had to restrained by fear of punishment
and hope of reward after death.
The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.
It is the source of all true art and all science.
He to whom this emotion is a stranger,
who can no longer pause to wonder and stand in rapt awe,
is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.
I never think about the future; it comes soon enough. |
