| | Choice of modules for actuaries? My registration date is on the 16th, and I'm unsure of which modules actuaries can usually choose from.
I've attached an excel file of the compulsory modules, which is found on the university's website.
If i can be informed which other modules I will most likely be allowed to choose from, I will be better prepared on the 16th.
Thanks in advance.

| | Janvdl,
What year are you in? What courses have you taken? Basic courses to take would be Stats, Act Sci, and Financial Management.

| | In that case, your first semester is pretty loaded (seven courses), and I would advise not taking more than that. Your university may be different than American schools, so take that for what it's worth. Courses I would look into would be classes that teach about risk, insurance, pensions/retirement systems, and/or financial economics.

Is that offered as a choice? Can one take just about any course or are there pre-selected courses that one has to choose from?

It gives me more time to ponder it.

| | 1)Seven is too much. Drop some of them. Take 4 course. Make your first semester and easy one.
2)Talk with a counselor. Do not do this stuff by yourself, you might pick something you do not need.
3)Why take German? If you know it just get exempt from it. And do that in general. If you know a subject, just take an exam on it and skip the course. That is what I do, and I saves a lot of time.
4)Be sure you have enought time to go to MHF with your courses. |

In Jamaica, the minimum required amount of credits for full time students is higher than in the U.S., four courses would not cover it. i'd say yes, don't try to make your first semester too hard, but you don't really have to cut back on credits to accomplish that. just take a lot of easy classes, with one or two of your compulsory ones. in my first year, i did 8 courses, but only like 3 were hard, and would you know it, i was under a LOT less stress then than i am now, and now i usually take 4 or 5 courses per semester. but that's up to you. you know what you can manage and you know what your school requires
but the others gave you really good advice. you should talk to a counselor as soon as possible, maybe before the 16th if you can |

The university speaks about "credits". Like a points system requirement that I have to meet.

2) I will be able to talk with the professor on the day of registration.
3) I would love to work in Europe. It seems there are quite a number of vacancies for actuaries in Germany and the only possible way to get into Europe is to speak one of the European languages. And I've always wanted to study it.
4) Naturally. I intend to stay here until the day that i die
