Default Pdf files vs. textbooks?

Because I am poor, I can't afford expensive textbooks. So I mainly use good quality pdf files from the internet to learn. IS this bad practice in the long run?

Speaking from experience, no it is not bad practice. However, you will need actual pages from the book to follow syllabus lessons and problems. Did you ever consider going to the campus library and using one of their text books? That combination (library plus internet resources) helped me get through college. I didn't buy a book in my last five semesters.

It is hard for me to read off the computer. I would rather have a book. Also I find that those free pdf documents are not as well written as a real book.

Dover books are very cheap, but I never liked them. I like Springer-Verlag but they are more expensive but not so expensive.

Goto Dover Publications Real and Complex Analysis
There are great great texts for less than $20.
Look into the Russian tranlations.

The pdf's tend to be lecture note rather than books, but there are some
rather good ones out there (but you need to be able to judge quality)

I like:

Tom Korner's and William Chen's stuff.

But then I find books easier to read.

(I will be rushing out to buy the two Kolmogorov texts on Plato's link when
I can borrow the money)

Default search and buy college textbooks from online bookstore

I agree that we need a actual page textbooks that will more convenience for your study. You may seach some online bookstores that will offer, may be 70% off discount.

I would suggest you go to the college textbooks

all are 100% brand new textbooks and 70% off. I purchased all my college textbooks last semester and save me more than $300. not bad. wish some help.

I always learnt from textbooks during highschool, I found it a lot easier. My brother always came home with a CD he had to use to install a .pdf version of the text on the PC.

I would always see him cramped up with the keyboard and mouse getting in the way, as he tried to do homework. To me that was not a great way of learning.

At uni, the textbooks are so expensive! I would definitely look at getting one online if it was offered cheaper - but I think I would print it out. I guess it varies from person to person, personally I prefer a textbook over .pdf files, I learn better using the textbook.

a good textbook is definitely more conducive to studying, however, if you really don't want to buy, then you can get the online version, then print them out, it's really more convenient.

2nd hand textbook, or you can try to get 1 off asian seller.
