| | Introducing one's self. My name is Anthony, I am from the UK. I've just started a 4 year Molecular Science PhD (having moved from the computer science one as my interests have shifted, yet not before publishing a couple of papers). This is my main motivation behind learning mathematics.
My background was in an MSc in Natural Computation and a BSc in Artificial Intelligence. Before returning to university I worked as a software engineer for 5 years for a large American company based in the UK. I spent most of my day programming in Java or Perl, yet was freqently called upon to look into C/C++.

| | Hi, I'm bruxism. In my last semester of a Bachelor of Education (secondary) majoring in Maths/Accounting. I've been lurking for a bit but have never done a formal intro.
I've got pretty strong opinions about how high school mathematics is being taught currently and what can be done to fix it. I'd say I've got a strong understanding of high school stuff and have never attempted to go much further than that, although I definitely would like to.
Anyway, see you all around here. |

Mathematics has taken a backseat in Victorian high schools. This problem is inherent from primary school, kids aren't given the exposure needed and hence their interest in math is diminished. It I think fixing it will be a massive job.

| | Hi forum! I'm a software developer, and have not had to use very much math over the years, and thus have forgotten much of it. In school I got up to differential equations, but now I could barely recognize such an equation, let alone know how to solve one!
I've gotten back into math because I have decided to learn the technical aspects of General Relativity and Quantum physics. So I have a long road ahead of me. But I've started reviewing my high school and college algebra, soon on to pre-calculus, calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and on to whatever else I'll need to learn.
Nice place you got here!

| | I am trying to become a mathematics teacher for high school. I have poor communication skills and hardly any ability to explain mathematics. However, the mathematics itself I am pretty good at. Basically, I want to come here to improve my ability to explain mathematics and communicate ideas; if you see me explaining things stupidly or hard to understand, please suggest better ways. Hopefully I will help a few people in the process. |
