That's not being stupid, Alundra. That's just being persistent until you understand the concepts. It also challenges the teacher to present it in a different way. "Good" teachers can usually come up with more than one or two ways. Here at "the forum", we step all over each other describing different approaches to the same problem. That's the beauty of it. So, stick around. We're a cool bunch of guys (gals)!

Hello,

You shouldn't be intimidated by their laughs. One can learn much when asking questions or proposing a solution, even if it looks silly or wrong, it is sometimes very useful for the one who asked it.
One of my teachers says just 2 weeks ago : don't hesitate to ask questions, because if one asks, it means that at least half the students didn't understand.
The level standing is maybe not the same, but I'm sure there were some other people who hesitated or were questioning themselves. They just didn't dare asking.
If you think you can correct an answer, don't hesitate too. If you're right, you'll remember "that's the one I corrected once !". If you're wrong, you'll remember "that's the one where I got wrong, but I remember the teacher said it was blahblah". If people laugh, don't care about it. Some people in high school level said that if someone asked questions, it was in the purpose of looking serious and nice to the teacher. That's stupid.

So yes, you can be proud. And congratulations

I've seen that, it's been helpful... especially if I don't understand the first way!

Hey Moo!
I will admit I do get upset, but I'm okay. People in other classes suck their teeth at me when I raise my hand to answer all the questions others cant (and the other day I was tired of it and yelled at the boy doing it). I'm not afraid to ask questions, I'm afraid of looking like an idiot (how ever funny it may be later). I will as the question, as stupid as it may sound....sometimes I ask the question I know everyones thinking but not asking lol.

But this forum is helping, and I am trying. I have to email my math teacher tonight and ask for work cause I've had a fever and been sneezing all day and not gotten to school .

We still don't have textbooks. It's now 7 weeks into the year if I remember correctly.

What Moo also said is true. You're never the only one who doesn't understand. I've noticed that over and over again in my own classes. Some people will think it's a stupid question, but sooner or later they will ask a question which appears stupid to you.
Besides, rather ask now than later. Otherwise people will think you're slow... (Besides, who cares what they think?! One day they'll be working for you! )

Why not throw in one or two questions not even the teacher can answer? Take one of TPH's problems of the week, and a partial answer, and say to you're teacher: "I've almost cracked this problem, please help me with the rest?"

That's pretension... and not sincere...

The purpose of asking questions is not to look good to the sight of your comrades. It's for your own benefit. If people laugh at it, don't care, sooner or later, you'll take advantage from your questions. If the teacher sees you're curious and/or follow what (s)he says, it's good for you, it shows your motivation.

But stay yourself, don't do more than necessary

The situation is such that it would be badly seen, to the eyes of everybody.

Someone asks a lot of questions, sometimes asks basic questions. And one day, she comes in class saying "hey all ! I have a challenging problem for you ! I was able to do most of it"
No, that's not appropriate. I'm sorry to say, but giving a POW from MHF is just a childish way to try to be reckoned >.<

*Sigh* Maybe I wasn't even being serious? I think you missed the whole "funny" part about my post, but nevermind.

Well, Alundra could have thought "hey, maybe I should try". There's nothing in your message that says it's a joke...

If I had a dollar for every time I said "I'm here to learn, not look good" to someone who was picking on my clothes or something lol (kids here arent nice to begin with it seems :|, but that's okay, I'm here for the education anyways ).

Aww come on guys don't fight. I'm more cunning than that - I told her I was here; and that that's why I was improving. She said good and went on with her work.....so I would, if I did that, tell her where it was from and ask her to help ME solve it :P.
And it wouldnt be in spite, it would be out of interest .
