| | Schools, need opinion Hello everyone. I am currently applying to colleges and going through the like and I was wondering if anybody can mention any good schools you can think of for math. I am particularly interested in Analysis and more specifically Harmonic Analysis, although any good math school would be appreciated.. Thanks very much for your time.

Mathstud | Do not worry about what your subject is going to be yet.

University of Chicago
Carnegie Melon University

| | Even in France, there have been articles about American universities and some hints about their rankings, or definitely their rankings. So why not in the USA or the internet ?
Do you think Berkeley or MIT is bad ? I don't even see what's the interest of such questions. Tssss...

Do you think Berkeley or MIT is bad ? | I do not think they are bad, I believe it is possible that there are schools with education on par with them but much cheaper. And despite my skills at math I have never took much of an interest in school. I have neglected my homework and have resultantly a low GPA. So even though I would thrive at one of those schools I doubt I would get accepted unless they actually looked at me. Most likely they will see my GPA and toss me aside.

CCNY | Most of this list is highly, highly competitive. Unless you do something truly extraordinary like prove the Riemann Hypothesis, you need pretty much a 4.0 GPA and a 1500+ SAT (700+ on writing as well). I don't know your resume so you'll have to judge for yourself what schools are reach schools, meet schools, and fall back schools. This list is mostly reach schools imho.
Good luck. Applying to college was one of the most stressful semesters of my life. | | The following users thank Jameson for this useful post: | | |

| | This is a question that I have heard the answer to a thousand times, but I will ask it again. Do colleges not even really consider mathematical/intellectual merit when evaluating admissions? And secondly, suppose that I was accepted to say MIT am I at the correct math ability level? In other words am I good enough for MIT in terms of math?

| | If you want a really cheap school you can go to my college. I know it is not nice to say how much you pay, but I happen to pay more on my textbooks than on my tuition . But the best part of all of this is that in the end I get bonus money for doing well, and that money exceeds all the money I pay. So I actually earn money by going to college! That is how Soviets solve the college problem.
