Most of the problems I cannot even understand. I think it is impressive if any person can say, "I am able to understand every single Hilbert Problem." |

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." - The Litany Against Fear, "Dune" by Frank Herbert |

I also have a question of Hilbert's 3rd problem.... | Hello, TPH,
have a look here: Mathematical Problems by David Hilbert
Take the last entry:
1900 D. Hilbert: Die Volumengleichheit zweier Tetraeder von gleicher Grundfläche und Höhe. Akad. Wiss. Göttingen 1900, 266-267. English Translation
Take the English Translation. Besides some notes about the 3rd problem you also find some explanations about the 6th problem.

Edit: So sorry, I send you the "original" text of Hilbert's manifesto. EB | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
