Default Math Forum Latex Functionality

I've built a couple basic websites before... obviously html, but also using css, some javascript and php, but how is this forum working exactly?

I mean, what's going on to allow the site to post Latex images? Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the subject.

Thanks
