| | Car licence plate Dear All,
Please help me to solve the following problem.
A Cook Island car licence plate has two letters followed by a hyphen and then three digits.
a. How many possible plates could be generated?
My answer: 26x26x10x10x10 = 676,000
b. How many plates could begin with the letter P followed by a T?
Could you please help me to do the part b?
Cheers |

He listed all the possibilities there. Another way to see it is that because you've locked the first two positions, the # of possibilities is 676,000 / 676 = 1000 |

| | There's only one choice for the first letter (because it has to be a P), there is only one choice for the second letter because it has to be a T, there are 10 choices for the first digit, 10 choices for the second digit and 10 choices for the third digit. Multiply these all together 1x1x10x10x10 =1000. | | The following users thank Debsta for this useful post: | | |
