Default Vector Proof

Prove that a + (b +c) = (a + b) + c

Had a go but not too sure, I proved it for a+b = b+a but this one has me confused.

Just a quick question, is there a specific vector space that you have to prove this for? Otherwise, associativity is kind of an axiom...
