\[\left( {\begin{array}{*{20}{c}}
8 & { - 1} \\
{ - 34} & 6 \\

\end{array} } \right)\]

Removing the \[ \] and replacing with [math] [/math] delimiters:

\left( \begin{array}{*{20}{cc}}   8 & { - 1}  \\   { - 34} & 6  \\\end{array}  \right)
