I have MS office 2002, and have always used MS Equation editor 3 for inserting equations, but I was wondering if it's possible to download and install a LaTeX editor for word. I realise you can use online editors and copy & paste, but is there anything that integrates with word?

CaptainBlack is right. MathType 6 integrates with Word on both Windows and Macintosh platforms, allowing you to type TeX or LaTeX into the equation editing window and insert a typeset equation into your Word document. We'll soon begin beta testing on MathType 6.5 for Windows, which will make this process even easier. Version 6.5 will include a "TeX toggle", which will let you type TeX or LaTeX directly into Word. When you're ready to convert the TeX into typeset equations, click the icon on the toolbar or Ribbon, and the TeX will be converted into MathType equations. Clicking the icon again will convert it back into TeX (hence the term "toggle"). You can edit the equation either by double-clicking it, which will open it in MathType, or by toggling it back to TeX, editing the code, then clicking the icon again.
