Default how many square inches

We have a box (which is not open) and is 8 inches wide, 12 inches long, and 6 inches high. How many square inches of cardboard are used?

a box has six sides correct

12*6( because the length is 12 and the box has 4 sides which the length is 12)
=72(4) for the amount of sides
=288

Now do the ends 8*6=48(2) for the two ends of the box
96

288+96=384 inches squares

does that match the answer in the book?
