Default Percentages

Employees of a discount appliance store receive an additional 20% off of the lowest price on an item. If an employee purchases a dishwasher during a 15% off sale, how much will he pay if the dishwasher originally cost $450?

The city council has decided to add a 0.3% tax on motel and hotel rooms. If a traveler spends the night in a motel room that costs $55 before taxes, how much will the city receive in taxes from him?

The sales price of a car is $12,590, which is 20% off the original price. What is the original price?

1) 15% of 450 = 0.15*450 = 67.5

The dishwasher costs $450-$67.5 = $382.5

An employee receive an additional 20% off...

0.2*382.5 = 76.5

This employee has to pay 382.5-76.5 = 306 bucks.

(.80)(.85)($450)

The city council has decided to add a 0.3% tax on motel and hotel rooms. If a traveler spends the night in a motel room that costs $55 before taxes, how much will the city receive in taxes from him?

(.003)($55)

The sales price of a car is $12,590, which is 20% off the original price. What is the original price?

(.80)(original price) = $12590

original price = ($12590)/(.80)

Percentage is quite simple a little trick to work out a percentage of something. example you have a brand new car that costs $15000 you need to work out what 13% of the $15000 a simple way is to divide $15000 by 100 which gives you 150 then multiply it by 13 so 150x13 = 1950 hope this little trick helps out.

I'm sure the OP understands how to caluclate percentage. It was probably applying the idea to the posted questions that was actually causing the trouble.
