Default percentage question help?

Alice gave $480 of her salary to her father, 25% of remaining salary to her mother. After giving 43% of her salary to her parents, she saved 15% of her salary and then spend the rest of the salary.

a) how much did she spend?
b) how much did she give to her mother?

Let x = Alice's salary

Let $480 = amount she gave to her father
Let .25(x-480) = amount she gave to her mother

These two amounts represent 43% of Alice's salary

480+.25(x-480)=.43x

48000+25x-12000=43x

x=\$2000

This is Alice's salary.

.25(2000-480)=\$380 the amount she gave to her mother.

.15(2000)=\$300 saved.

So, she gave $480 to father, $380 to her mother which is a total of $860 to her parents which is 43% of 2000. She saved $300. She had $840 left to spend on beer and cigarettes or whatever.
