how do you do formulae?

for example it says make x the subject and the formulae is like:

2=y-4x

i get really confused with questions like that

Do it step by step.

2 = y - 4x

Take the other variable to one side so you only have the variable that you want to make the subject on one side. In this case y is the other variable so we'll move it to the LHS.

2-y=-4x

Divide by the number in front of the variable that you want to make the subject. In this case -4.

-\frac{2-y}{4} = x

could you maybe do a few more examples to explain it?
