how do you do formulae?

for example it says make x the subject and the formulae is like:

2=y-4x

i get really confused with questions like that

Do it step by step.

$2 = y - 4x$

Take the other variable to one side so you only have the variable that you want to make the subject on one side. In this case $y$ is the other variable so we'll move it to the LHS.

$2-y=-4x$

Divide by the number in front of the variable that you want to make the subject. In this case $-4$ .

$-\frac{2-y}{4} = x$
