Default How to solve a log problem???

If I have this:

log(x) = -3.87

and I want to find x, do I assume that this a natural logarithm, or a base 10?

In other words, does x = 10^-3.87 or x = e^(-3.87) ????

Thanks!

I would assume base 10

\ln(x) should be written for base e.

Although you can never be 100% sure, ask your teacher
