Default how to determine constant

sorry for asking such question.

but i'm jz wondering how can we determine a constant value in a formula.

for example, if i would like to measure color harmony with the given formula,

Harmony = (a)*value of hue difference + (b)*value of chroma different

how should i further enhance this by adding in the constant a and b. what is the first step i can start with?

thanks in advance.

You need some known data. Two sets will be sufficient but more would be
better. In the case or two sets of data (h1, dh1, dc1), (h2, dh2, dc2)
you will have a pair of simultaneous equations to solve.

With more data you can use linear regression
