A busload of campers stopped at a diary satnd for ice cream. They ordered 77 cones, some soft serve at $2.00 each and the rest hard pack at $0.75 each. If the total bill was $119.00, how many of each type of cone were order?

Solving a equation system gives us the answer:
S = Soft
H = Hard
$S + h = 77 \; \mbox{ and } 2S + 0.75H = 119$
After solving we find that:
$S = 49 \; \mbox{and} \; H = 28$

How did you come up with this equation based on the information given?

Total of cones $=77$
Total bill $=119$

Soft cones $=x$ ($2.00 each)
Hard pack $=77-x$ ($0.75 each)

$x(2)+(77-x)(0.75)=119$

$2x+57.75-0.75x=119$

$2x-0.75x+57.75=119$

$1.25x+57.75=119$

$1.25x=119-57.75$

$1.25x=61.25$

$x=\frac{61.25}{1.25}$

$x=49$

And there you are... ;-)
