Exclamation Sketching graphs with square roots.

Sketch the curve y = sqrt(a^2 - x^2) and give a geometric interpretation of each term of your integral.

Could someone explain to me how to do this question please? What on earth does the curve look like and what is geometric interpretation???

y = \sqrt{a^2 - x^2} \Rightarrow y^2 = a^2 - x^2 \Rightarrow y^2 + x^2 = a^2. So what you have is the upper half of a circle ....

(Assuming that the integral you refer to is the integral of this function, the geometric meaning of it should now be clear).
