Hello everyone!

We will be editing the FAQ section of the forums. At the moment, it deals with how to use the forum software. However, we want to base the FAQ off questions our [new] members [would] have.

I would now like to ask you for your input on what you think what questions would be asked the most? (i.e. LaTeX help, Posting requirements, etc.).

If you're a new member, please ask us whats on your mind. This would be a great opportunity for us to properly structure the FAQ, since the FAQ is primarily for you guys.

If you're a regular here, try to think of what questions you would have asked when you first joined MHF.

It's strange, "How do I create a thread?" is not in the FAQ (at least, I don't see it there. Under "Posting New messages" it tells you how to format your post). I have actually been asked that question several times. People have PM'd me questions because they don't know how to create threads. We should probably say something about that, for the little kids' sake.

Some things I can think of are:

1)Where to find forum rules and commonly broken rules
2)Infractions and the way they work
3)Basic Latex info
4)Summing up points in the "Sample thread of how NOT to get help"

Where do I post my thread?

Why can't I access Live Chat?

Why am I banned from Live Chat?

Is bumping allowed?

How do I typeset math equations like the others?

What's that triangle (Sierpinski) in the forum's logo?

Ideas

1) Who is an Administrator?

2) Who is a Moderator, How can I become one?

3) Who is a helper , How can I become one?

4) Who is an Ambassador How can I become one ?

5)How do I make text hyperlink like this ?

6) Is there an Introduction thread ?

7) How can I upload animated avatars ?

8) What's the way to use "noparse" ?

9) Whom can I contact incase of a missing thread?

10) Whom to talk in case I want to know a general thing about forum ?

11) How to delete a thread incase I double posted ?

12)Where to ask "why doesn't anyone reply to me " ? or its answer!

13) Please delete my account ?

It would be good if some of the very helpful information and advice in the stickies at the top of the disappearing UHH page could be repackaged in the form of answers to FAQs.

what is "Quick Reply"? this is actually my question too! have we always had this feature on MHF and i just noticed that?

Quick Reply is an alternative to clicking "reply to post". There really shouldn't be a difference in posting. XD

I just enabled this today. I have no idea why I didn't do it sooner, but here it is finally. Very helpful in certain situations I think. To expand, it allows you to see rendered Latex code from multiple posts at times if you want to give a short answer. It's not magical by any means but useful.

One more I could think
1) What incase I want to submit my original work,where should I post it incase I want it to be checked & not to be copied by others ?

What is academic fraud? What is cheating? What is academic plagiarism? Why do the Moderators close my thread and give me an Infraction when I ask for help with questions that count towards my final grade?


Only the last question is what a User would be interested in knowing the answer to. But the first questions are the questions they should be asking (so that the last question never has to be asked).

It's just for typing a quick message. It's purpose is sort of destroyed by the fact that you first have to click on a button to activate it though.
